Andy Preedy - Expedition Leader

Meet Andy, a passionate leader and founding member of the Herefordshire Expedition Group. With over 40 years as a dedicated youth worker, Andy's expertise in guiding and empowering young adventurers is unparalleled. As the Interim Centre Manager of Dinedor outdoor centre, Andy continues to make a difference. Andy has an extensive portfolio having been part of five previous expeditions, leading two, and has credentials as a Summer Mountain Leader.

Katie Jackson - Deputy Expedition Leader

Introducing Katie, our deputy leader and Head of Policy at Scouts HQ and a passionate advocate for youth development. She speaks regularly to the government about the needs of young people and youth services and set up the Scouts UK Youth Advocate panel. Having personally experienced the transformative power of expeditions as a participant in the HEG 2009 expedition to Borneo, Katie is committed to creating similar life-changing experiences for future adventurers.

Craig Fletcher

Meet Craig. With 14 years of service as an on-call firefighter, he has honed his expertise in emergency response. With qualifications in trauma and first aid, Craig is well-prepared for emergencies and remains calm under pressure. Additionally, as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant specialising in Social Emotional Mental Health, he places a strong emphasis on prioritising student well-being. His extensive experience in youth work further highlights his commitment to guiding and supporting young individuals.

Carrie Tomkins

Introducing Carrie, an experienced and passionate teacher. With a postgraduate diploma in educational practice, she possesses a deep understanding of effective teaching methods. With over 10 years of experience in primary and secondary schools, she has dedicated herself to nurturing the growth and development of young minds. As a Level 3 Forest School leader with outdoor first aid training, Carrie skillfully facilitates engaging outdoor education experiences.

Ellie Lown

Introducing Ellie, a Student Paramedic with a passion for adventure. Currently undergoing training to become a qualified professional, she brings dedication and expertise to our team. With training in Remote First Aid, Mental Health and Well-being, Ellie ensures comprehensive care in diverse situations, prioritising the safety and well being of others. Adventure runs through Ellie's veins, from scaling Everest Base Camp to exploring the depths of Indonesia through scuba diving.

Nick James-Williams - Trustee

Introducing Nick, a previous HEG leader on our Borneo 2009 trip. With a diverse background in youth work, teaching, and outdoor professionalism, Nick offers a unique perspective and depth of knowledge. Equipped with a graduate degree in Adventurous Activity Management, he also serves as an Operational Team Leader and Medic with West Mercia Search and Rescue. Trust in Nick's experience, expertise, and passion for creating extraordinary experiences as you embark on a journey of a lifetime.

Martin Lown - Trustee

Introducing Martin, a valuable addition to our team this year. With a strong military background and a genuine passion for outdoor pursuits, adventure flows through his veins. Having served in Herefordshire Fire and Rescue Service for 30 years, Martin brings resilience and a wealth of expertise to our group. As a dedicated Scout Leader for 15 years, Martin has inspired and supported young individuals while excelling in charity fundraising.

Jackie Jackson - Treasurer

Introducing Jackie. With an impressive 35-year career as a paediatric nurse, she has touched the lives of many with her expertise and compassion. Within the Herefordshire Expedition Group, Jackie takes on the vital role of treasurer, drawing from her experience of managing the finances of other organisations. Through her dedicated efforts, Jackie ensures that resources are effectively managed so that young adventurers can embark on life-changing expeditions.

Chelsea Jarrett-Paterson

Introducing Chelsea, a Technician with the West Midlands Ambulance Service who is on track to become a registered Paramedic by June 2024. Outside of work, she is deeply passionate about fundraising and actively supports both HEG and St. Michaels Hospice. As an avid outdoors enthusiast, Chelsea enjoys walking with her dogs and finds solace in the beauty of nature. Having been a young participant herself in the 2014 Nepal expedition with HEG, she now seeks to create meaningful experiences for others.
